Mystic London
Mystic London is a photo series documenting spiritual communities in London who gather to perform indigenous and pagan healing ceremonies in the city. I initially focused on a group of people who follow a Mexican traditional healer and artist called Huitzomitl, who some consider a Shaman. He gave me access to different underground spiritual events taking place in London.
There is a growing movement of people in the city attempting to reconnect with spirituality, often through rituals coming from abroad. How are these rituals reshaped, repurposed and consumed in a globalised environment like London?
The alternative spiritual community of London is made up of a range of sub-communities, bringing together many different kinds of people. Generally, they are united by their love of nature, astrology, a fascination towards magic and the supernatural, psychedelic substances; wellbeing and the body.
This project explores why Londoners search for an alternative spirituality, through traditions and symbols coming from several cultures and converging in the backyards, parks and streets of London.
